This week, French carmaker DS has revealed its to offer a new engine for it’s stylish DS7 Crossback SUV. The new addition not only offers more power than the THP 210 unit, but it also uses 6% less fuel. Available in the DS7 Crossback now, it will start from £34,990 in the UK.

What Are The Stats?

As the name suggests, the engine offers 225ps (223bhp) with , and it offers better fuel economy than the THP 210 unit. To achieve this, the DS engineers have improved combustion cycles, reduced engine friction and they’ve also redesigned the turbo for better gains. This new engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox, and thanks to an Eco mode that places the engine into idle when free-wheeling (between 12mph and 80mph) it’ll return 48.9mpg and it emits 135g/km of CO2 emissions. This means for the first year of VED you’ll pay £205.

Reduced Pollutants

DS states that the PureTech 225 engine allows for a significant reduction in pollutants in real world conditions thanks to features such as:

  • Introduction of the Petrol Particle Filter to reduce particle emissions (filtration effectiveness of over 75%)
  • An even more effective emissions reduction system in all environments: greater thermal resistance of materials, optimised exhaust temperature management and improved catalyst function).
  • An optimised combustion: controlled fuel-air mixture in a very precise delivery via the use of a new-generation oxygen sensor.
