Are you someone that loves electric cars? Do you love smart cars? Then you’re in luck, as smart’s new electric range of cars is now on sale, with prices starting from £16,420. Three model styles are available to order as of now, but what can buyers expect?
smart Electricity
The cheapest model will be the fortwo model, then it’s the forfour model which starts from £16,915 and lastly there is fortwo cabriolet, which is priced from £18,650. No matter which you choose you’ll be given an electric drivetrain which is able to offer a power out of 81hp that is powered to the rear wheels via a single-speed gearbox. As you would expect, the performance is far from electric – 0-62mph comes in a pedestrian 11.5 seconds and the top speed is only 81mph.
Actually, that’s not quite true – the top speed may be 81mph, but strangely the car is limited to 80mph for better range. No I don’t quite get that one either. Speaking of range, 100 miles is on offer here, so you may want to plan you journeys carefully if you plan to do medium-long distance driving. 2.5 hours is the charging time when using a 16 A socket, but if you choose to use a normal socket at home, you’ll be looking at a charge time of around six hours.
Oh, interesting fact; smart is the only brand that offers all models with either a combustion engine or a fully electric drivetrain.
What Kit Is On Offer?
All models will be based on the ‘prime’ model, this means buyers will get benefits such as heated seats, cruise control, leather upholstery and 15″ alloy wheels. Also included are parking sensors, smart media system with sat nav, and an acoustic ambient sound generator. So what’s like, whale music?
Optional extras include automatic lights and wipers, heated steering wheel and reversing camera, plus you can also have LED headlights. There is also an ‘electric drive design’ package, which is priced at £595 and includes; a tridion cell and mirror caps in electric green; body panels in either black or white with matching grille; 16-inch alloys; and ‘ED’ decals in grey.
The new smart electric models are on sale now, with prices starting at £16,240.
