The Škoda Octavia vRS has always been a bit of an underdog, it goes about business rather quietly with its conservative styling and ‘simply clever’ features. There is a new one though and this one is the fastest yet.

More Power

Under the bonnet of the new Octavia vRS 245 is a four-cylinder petrol TSI unit, which produces 242bhp (245ps) – 15 more than the previous model – and 370Nm of torque. Ok, so it’s not the biggest gain but it’s still faster, plus it means it’s the Czech brand’s fastest Octavia car to date. As with previous models you will be able to get the new model in either hatchback or estate guise. There will be a choice of two gearboxes – a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic. 0-62mph comes in 6.6 seconds (estate: 6.7 seconds) and the top speed is limited to 155mph.

Lower, Wider, Cleverer

The new vRS is 14mm lower than the standard Octavia models and it also has a wider track (38mm) than the previous generation vRS. A VAQ limited slip differential is also in place with the new car to help improve traction through cornering. There is also a performance mode select to give a more dynamic drive, plus there is also a performance sound generator function to improve the vocal experience.

As with other Škodas, the Octavia vRS 245 will host some ‘simply clever’ features. LED headlights can be found at the front, whilst in the cabin occupants will be able to benefit from USB ports in the rear, a removable torch in the boot (estate), real-time navigation, a heated leather steering wheel, and a personalisable key to name a few. There will also be a whole host of safety features too including trailer assist, predictive pedestrian protection and blind sport assist.

The new Octavia vRS will go on sale later this year and will feature at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
