Have you ever fancied a Volkswagen Tiguan but wanted a bit more go? Well you are in luck as Volkswagen has announced the 2.0 litre bi-turbo diesel engine producing 237bhp is now available to order.
Hot hatch performance, SUV body
The new engine is able to offer more power than the current Golf GTI and has 30bhp more than the 2.0 TSI unit found in the previous Tiguan. It can be selected with either the SEL trim or the sportier R-Line trim levels and is available to order now from £36,450. Mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and four-wheel drive, this engine is able to propel the new Tiguan to 62mph in just 6.5 seconds and then on to a top speed of 142mph.
So we’re talking hot hatch performance in an SUV, a car that’s bigger, roomier and more practical. Not bad, eh? If you go for the R-Line model it will even look like a hot hatch* thanks to a roof spoiler, rear diffuser, chunky alloy wheels and a revised bumper design. Step inside and you’ll be greeted by cloth sport seats and stainless steel pedals. This is only about £2,000 more than the SEL so that should help your decision if you’re tempted…
R-Line a bit too much for you?
If you fancy something a bit more laid-back and subtle (and cheaper) then you can opt for the SEL trim which will give you an infotainment system with satellite navigation and 8″ colour touchscreen. Also on offer is adaptive cruise control as is an Active Info Display which used a 12.3″ TFT display to give useful information to the driver.
