There has been a lot of buzz about the Mercedes-AMG A35 AMG, which is the new entry level AMG model from the German performance brand. It’s essentially a de-tuned version of the forthcoming A45 AMG, but that’s not to say that’s a bad thing. In fact, it offers buyers a chance to get the AMG experience, but at a more reasonable price.
Speaking of which, how much is it?
The new A35 AMG will start from £35,580, meaning it will go toe-to-toe with cars such as the Volkswagen Golf R and the Audi S3, but that comes as very little surprise, given the similarities in performance. It’s available to order now, with first deliveries arriving spring 2019.
Like the standard A-Class, the A35 AMG comes armed with MBUX, Merc’s new infotainment system, which features artificial intelligence, and can be awoken by uttering “Hey Mercedes”. You also get 7″ touchscreen along with a 7″ digital driver’s display, but if you tick the right boxes in the options list, these can be made larger.
Other features include Active Lane Keeping Assist and Speed Limit Assist; 18-inch five-twin spoke AMG alloy wheel; AMG suspension; touchpad; AMG radiator grille with twin-blade lamella; AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather; high-performance braking system with AMG lettering; AMG exhaust system; reversing camera; Dynamic Select with five driving modes; Keyless-Go starting function; and automatic two-zone climate control.
How fast is it?
Just in case this is the first time you’ve ever read about this car, let me fill you in with some performance stats. Like its rivals, the new A35 AMG is fitted with a turbocharged 2.0 litre petrol engine, which feeds power to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox. This 2.0 litre unit produces 306hp and 400Nm of torque. 62mph is dealt with in just 4.7 seconds, which is certainly brisk, but it’s a little slower than the Golf R and the S3, and max out at 155mph.
The new Mercedes-AMG A35 AMG is now on sale, with prices starting at £35,580.
