Weekend Window Shopping: Subaru Impreza WRX STI Cosworth

This week’s edition of Weekend Window Shopping features another hot hatch, one of which is likely to be one of the fastest around. It’s the Subaru Impreza WRX STI Cosworth and if you happen to know what the Cosworth name means then you’ll know this is something a bit special. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the name let me fill you in – Cosworth is  a high-performance engineering company from the UK which has a vast amount of experience in F1 and has powered cars such as the Sierra RS Cosworth and the Mercedes-Benz 190E.

As the name suggests, this version of the WRX STI has been fettled by Cosworth and in doing so offers 400bhp. That amount of power in a hatchback is more than ample but it should be manageable enough thanks to four-wheel drive. The 2.5 litre flat-four engine – mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox –  will propel the Japanese hatch to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.

What makes this car special is the fact only 75 were produced – the model on sale by Sharman Group is number 70 and is the only one available to buy online according to the dealer. It’s a subtle little thing and from a distance you probably wouldn’t be aware of the car’s capabilities. Get closer and you’ll notice the discreet sports styling, 18″ alloy wheels and the sports seats which bear the Cosworth logo.

Priced at £34,995, this WRX STI has had one previous owner and has covered just 9,000 miles in its 5 year lifespan. It’s really been looked after as well – Lifeshine paint protection worth £2,000 has been applied and the car has been kept in a heated garage for the last 12 months. Full service history is on offer plus it has a Subaru fitted tracker for added security.
